Sciences Po’s Chair of Sustainable Development, IDDRI and the Paris-based China Europe Forum are co-hosting a conference on the role of the Chinese private sector in the transition towards a low-carbon development, which is China’s current objective. What incentives motivate companies to commit themselves to the fight against climate change? Are their actions on the climate truly a result of public policies? To what extent are these actions motivated by the desire to maintain their financial profits, and are they sufficient given the challenge of climate change? Does the situation vary among different sectors and industries? What opportunities exist to go further? What are the challenges?
Sébastien Treyer, IDDRI’s Director of Programmes, Professor at Sciences Po, and Adviser to the Sustainable Development Chair, will be the moderator of this conference debate.
