Aleksandar Rankovic takes part in the Environment and International Relations Seminar, organized by CERI, Center for International Research.
Event presentation:
Since 2013, CERI has organized a research seminar dedicated to environmental issues. Over four years of the event, the seminar has welcomed speakers from many disciplines and thematic horizons. It has thus enhanced work on global environmental governance, climate change, biodiversity, natural resource management and risks and disasters in a perspective of international relations. The seminar has also brought together different social sciences with an international outlook, such as political science, sociology, anthropology, economics, law, philosophy and political ecology. It has gathered a French-speaking scientific community while offering one-off sessions in English. Lastly, it has supported the position of PhD students by giving them a central role in discussions in the majority of sessions.
Each year, the topics addressed in the seminar are guided by a unifying theme that serves to fuel the discussions at each session. After questioning the meaning and construction of environmental problems at last year’s sessions, the 2017-2018 programme will examine the proposed solutions for these issues. It critically analyses the instruments, institutional arrangements and other practices that have been conceptualized and implemented to “solve” environmental problems. Through the diversity of speakers, the seminar aims to promote theoretical reflection on the conceptualization of environmental problems and solutions, and pragmatic consideration of the actual application of these solutions. The seminar will offer different session formats to enable various audiences to participate, alternating between discussion sessions on the work of researchers and round tables that are open to a broader public.
