REPLAY

This webinar presented the Scottish approach to climate change and the just transition, and also explored the experiences of the the French, New Zealand and UK's respective work in these areas.

With the EU’s Just Transition Mechanism launched in January 2020 - the first on the roadmap of initiatives outlined under the European Green Deal – this event intends to share Scotland’s perspective on the concept of ‘just transition’. It will also outline the concrete steps Scotland is taking to ensure our shift to a climate neutral future happens in a way that promotes inclusive growth, cohesion and equality.

In September 2018, the Scottish Government announced the Just Transition Commission (JTC), which is tasked with providing practical independent advice on how to maximise the economic and social benefits of decarbonising Scotland, while managing the risks and challenges. Scotland has taken world-leading action to embed underpinning Just Transition principles in Climate Change legislation. This reflects Scotland’s commitment to take a holistic approach to achieving our domestic targets for GHG emissions reductions – net-zero by 2045, and -75% by 2030 – as set out in legislation in the  Climate Change (Emissions Reductions Targets) (Scotland) Act 2019.
