Dana R. Fisher is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Columbia University. Her research interests fall under the sub-disciplines of political and environmental sociology. Presently, she is working on projects that explore the ways in which civil society participates in political processes-on the local, national, and international levels: one project is studying citizens' involvement in transnational protest around the world, another project analyzes the ways that young Americans try to become politically active by working as canvassers for a social movement organization, and a third is looking at the role of civil society within multilateral governance regimes. Her first book, National Governance and the Global Climate Change Regime, was published by Rowman and Littlefield Publishers in summer 2004. Her second book, Activism Inc., focuses on activism in America. It is being published by Stanford University Press and will be out in September 2006.Fisher received her Ph.D. and Masters of Science degrees from the Department of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her undergraduate degree is in East Asian Studies and Environmental Studies from Princeton University.
