Former Biodiversity and Ecosystems Programme Director, IDDRI
Yann Laurans developped the activities of Iddri in the field of biodiversity. He was particularly interested in the economic and social factors that explain biodiversity loss, and how environmental policies respond to these determinants: globalized value chains and the fight against deforestation, nature-based and nature-conserving solutions and nature-conservation policies, artificialization and urban development policies...
Yann holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne ; his carreer has been divided between research (AScA, and Iddri), environmental consulting firms (Espelia, Ecowhat) and administration (Seine-Normandie Water Agency). He is a member of the Humanity and Biodiversity Reflection Committee, the Scientific Council on Natural Heritage of the Southern Province of New Caledonia (economic), the Commission on Environmental Law and Policy of the French Committee of IUCN. He oversees the actions of the biodiversity agenda and coordinates the local environment and global exchanges intervention programme of IDDRI. He teaches the practice and principles of economic instruments for nature policy at the Paris School of International Affairs (Sciences Po).
