Une intervention de Raphaël Billé dans le cadre d'une session d'information au Parlement européen, "A Blueprint for the Ocean and Coasts at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20, June 2012) - Issues, Challenges and Solutions", organisée par Kriton Arsenis (membre du Parlement européen) et par la Commission océanographique intergouvernementale de l'UNESCO.
Présentation de la session d'information [en anglais] :
"The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), to be held in June 2012, presents a unique opportunity to commit countries and their citizens to the protection of our ocean and at the same time enhance its potential contribution to sustainable development. This will require concerted effort on the part of nations and other stakeholders, to ensure that concrete actions address gaps in implementation in UNCSD commitments on oceans, build on past successes, provide a roadmap for a blue-green economy, and catalyze the political will for timely, effective, and well-funded implementation.
This event will be the opportunity to present and discuss some of the key issues that are affecting the ocean and people that depend on it, as well as opportunities and solutions for addressing challenges such as ocean acidification, resource overexploitation, pollution, and biodiversity protection, as well as the need for science and technology transfer for sustainable ocean management. This meeting will also be the occasion to review the Rio+20 process, including the state of the negotiation process and next steps."
