IDDRI, PBL, FNI and SCELG host a side event to the COP-14 (fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity).
In view of the urgency of the biodiversity loss, the changes required to deal with the underlying drivers of biodiversity loss and the implementation and legitimacy deficits in much of current international and national biodiversity policies, the architecture of the international biodiversity regime and the design of the new strategic plan need a rethinking. This side event, built upon the results of a workshop organised by IDDRI in January 2018, focuses on this governance question and explores alternative options for the new global biodiversity framework.
The panel will start off with the main results of the meeting, then short comments will be provided to elaborate further on the above mentioned perspectives, and a discussion will be held with the audience about implications for the current negotiations on the new global biodiversity framework.
