On 22 September, the MILES project will host a final event to present the project's achievements and place them in the context of global climate action for implementation of the Paris Agreement.
MILES is a 3-year project (2014-2017) funded by the European Commission (DG Clima) that brings together partners from US, Japan, Europe, China, India, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia to elaborate transparent narratives for low-emission development strategies in order to inform the international negotiations on climate and national climate policies.
MILES is one of the first projects addressing climate action from a simultaneously national and global perspective. The project involved in-country teams developing low-carbon transition pathways in line with their national context, as well as global modelling to assess the collective impact of climate action. These efforts considered both the 2030 horizon of the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) and the longer-term perspective of contributing to the elaboration of pathways at a 2050 horizon.
Following the signing of the Paris Agreement in December 2015, the outputs from the MILES project can inform countries as they prepare the next steps such as: communicating and implementing their successive Nationally Determined Contributions, preparing Long-term Low Emission Development Strategies, and meeting national and global sustainable development objectives.
This event will gather decision makers working on low-carbon transition development strategies at national, EU and international level, as well as other stakeholders from international organisations, development agencies, NGOs and think tanks.
