"These territories are not on the side-lines and carry some important lessons, including a main one that emerges from this paper: if climate change is a real threat—and to deny this would be both irresponsible and dangerous—then tomorrow’s problems are intimately tied to current patterns of land use and resource use that are not sustainable.
