Mobility has been disrupted by digital technology in cities. Information, optimisation and reliability were then promised to relieve congestion in cities and facilitate travel. However, digital technology has not led to the expected improvements. Worse still, digital services have sometimes led to increased traffic congestion, new travel demand and the promotion of motorised modes at the expense of active modes. Hence the need to re-examine the role of digital technology in responding to the challenges of urban mobility.
