How to strengthen the cooperation between the 4Cs (Countries, Cities/Regions, Companies and Citizens) to support concrete implementation and to inform the revision of NDCs by 2020?

Organisers: French Ministry for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition, IDDRI and The Transport Decarbonization Alliance

The session will highlight how the transport stakeholders are organizing themselves to strenghten the cooperation and how tools could support concrete implementation. Yann Briand will make an online demonstration of the Deep Decarbonization Pathways Tool.

The transport sector represents about 15% of global GHG emissions and 25% of energy-related CO2 emissions and these emissions could double by 2050 without active mitigation measures. The current policies are not enough to limit global warming "well-below 2°C" and reach the carbon neutrality in the second half of the century.
However, countries, cities/regions, companies and citizens (4Cs) have different and complementary action levers to support the implementation of the transport decarbonisation.
For this purpose, "front-runner" countries, cities/regions and companies join forces in the Transport Decarbonization Alliance (TDA) to support an extensive dialogue, share solutions and implement top-tier transport-related measures.

To support an extensive engagement of the 4Cs, five major international initiatives working on sustainable transport transformations led by IDDRI, ITF-OECD, PPMC, WWF and WBCSD provide also specific adapted tools in the Transport Decarbonization Toolbox (TDT).
The side-event will highlight concrete work of the TDA and TDT and discuss how to strenghten the cooperation between the 4Cs towards better implementation and what are their concrete needs in the next period.
