The Partnership for Regional Ocean Governance (PROG) is a collaborative initiative at the science-society-policy interface that supports integrated ocean governance approaches for marine regions. Initiated in 2015 by IDDRI, UN Environment, the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS), and TMG – Think Tank for Sustainability, together with partners from different marine regions, the PROG facilitates dialogue and learning processes across sectors and stakeholders to advance knowledge for the conservation and sustainable use of marine ecosystems and their resources.
One of the main aims of the PROG is to support collaboration and exchange of good-practices between marine regions. In 2017, Germany and the European Union announced at the UN Ocean Conference in New York and the Our Ocean Conference in Malta that they will support the establishment of a cross-sectoral and cross-boundary multi-stakeholder platform for regional ocean governance under the PROG, the so-called PROG-Forum. The first international PROG Forum will be held in 2019.
An initial meeting between PROG partners and funders was held in Berlin on 27 February to discuss next steps and to develop the Forum concept.
