Ivonne Lobos Alva is Research Associate Global Soil Forum and Renewable Resources and the SDGs Forum at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS, Germany). She is an environmental engineer from Guatemala and specializes on agroecology and environmental governance. Her work includes the development of strategies to address natural resource degradation in global policy, with a focus on soils and land. She actively engaged in advocating the protection of soil and land resources in the United Nations negotiation process to develop universal Sustainable Development Goals. Prior to joining the IASS, she had over seven years of work experience with international development organisations such as the Canadian International Development Agency and the European Commission in rural development, disaster risk reduction and natural resource management projects.
